Undergraduate Mentorship

Savannah Price

Savannah approached me to get involved in research early in her undergraduate career. I convinced her to assist me in data collection during my MS research investigating habitat selection by cottonmouths.

She is currently pursuing her MS research in Diana Hews' Lab at Indiana State University. In part, she is quantifying stress responses by Sceloporus in the Chiricahuas.

Aaron Ross

Aaron received a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship to study the habitat selection of colubrids at the Cumberland River Bicentennial Trail. He and I came up with the project, and I assisted him the in grant application.

Aaron is currently finishing up his MS degree studying the status and threat assessment of Noturus fasciatus (saddled madtom) in Rebecca Johansen's Lab at APSU.

Diana Trinh

Diana and I collaborated on a thermal comparison of operative temperatures of cottonmouths and copperheads. She quickly learned how to surgically implant and remove temperature loggers (iButtons). She presented this research at APSU's Undergraduate Research Forum.

Diana is currently pursuing a Medical Degree at the University of Houston School of Optometry.

C.J. Hillard

CJ is an undergraduate in the Moon Lab at UL-Lafayette. We have worked together collecting defensive strike data from ratsnakes across a range of body sizes to investigate the role of scaling in that performance measure. CJ has also spent time with me in east Louisiana snorkeling for map turtles to be used in my dissertation research.

CJ is finishing up his B.S. at UL-Lafayette and applying to graduate schools. He is interested in the ecology and physiology of snakes, with a focused interest in large invasive pythons.
